About this Site

first generation websiteEverything
in life has a purpose. Good websites are no exception. However, when building my first website, the emphasis was not on purpose, but rather, learning - learning how to create and publish a website. As a result, it was little more than a bunch of links, with some pictures of my car thrown in This website dates back to the middle of 1996.
second generation websiteIn the second generation of my website (1996-97), I cleaned up the look and feel of the webpage, and added more personal information, as well as more original content.
third generation websiteThe third generation represent an enormous improvement in the navigation of my site, and was my first experiment using frames. Unfortunately, I also went a little overboard on the animated gifs (the dancing Spots, flames at the tip, and a rotating email link). This website went live in the beginning of 1997.
I liked the thrid generation site, but felt it was too flashy, and wanted a more subdued website, thus leading to the fourth iteration of my website, created around the end of 1997.
fourth generation website
The fourth generation website was nice, I really liked it, but began to realize that it lacked a clear purpose. So what IS the purpose of a personal homepage? That’s a tough question. I believe the basic purpose is to be a source of information for people wanting to learn more about you. Most importantly, it should provide your contact information in a clear and easy to find manner. Information about yourself is secondary, it’s somewhat arogant to think that the total strangers accessing your site want to know where you attended high school, etc. Some might, and for those, the information could be included at a lower level. Including a resume on a personal website is a great idea; it may not lead to much but you never know, it might land you that dream job. In today’s layoff-crazy job market, it’s always good to keep your eyes and ears open to find out about other opportunities.

One major source of original content on my websites has been my car, a 1991 Toyota MR2. For this fifth generation website, I’ve decided to spin that off into its own independant website (independant in the sense of style and continuity). The primary website is about me me ME!
